The Bird Man of Bewdley

Have been voluntarily looking after the River birds here in Bewdley, Worcestershire on a daily basis since October 2010. I feed about 30kg's of wheat a day to approx 50 swans, 40 geese (farmyard whites mainly) and up to 100 ducks, depending on the time of year. I also catch any sick or injured birds either by hand or by means of a swan hook then transport them to a rescue centre, mostly to Cuan Wildlife Rescue Much Wenlock, Shropshire. Those that I cannot catch, are referred to Wychbold Swan Rescue, who are a registered charity, so that the Fire & Rescue service can then be contacted and they will launch their powered boat to save the stricken swan. Those birds that cannot be returned to the river are found a forever home to live out the rest of their days.

About Me

Any funds received are held in a dedicated Business Community account and they are used solely to purchase 20kg bags of nutritious wheat straight from the farm. The transport cost to the rescue centre, a 50 mile round trip, and the 20 mile round trip to the farm are paid for by myself. The feed helps to maintain the birds as an addition to their natural diet. It also provides goodness which is lacking in the bread that well meaning people feed to them together with the chips, biscuits and cake that also comes their way. One 20kg bag currently (October 2020) is £6, so any help kindly given with funding is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
